Students with money left in lunch account have options

As an added convenience for families, students who have balances left in their lunch account at the end of the year will have that balance rolled over into next year. For students changing schools, their balance will follow them to their new school.

However, if you would like to have the balance refunded to you, please contact your kitchen manager. Refunds begin May 21. The last day for refunds is June 5 at 1:30 p.m. Please see your kitchen manager for refunds, not the school office.

In order to close our financial books for the school year, the last day for charging will be May 8 at the MIDDLE schools and May 22 at the ELEMENTARY schools.

LUNCH NUMBERS

If your students are staying in the same school next year, they will keep the same lunch number with one exception. The first digit of the number will change to match their grade level. Example: Your first grader's number is 1001, after promotion to the second grade, the number will become 2001.

NOTICIAS SOBRE LOS ALMUERZOS

¡Buenas noticias!

New service makes parents aware of lunch account balances

Good News! Nutrition Services will now be able to leave a friendly reminder of your student's lunch account balance. We will be giving your home a call weekly to let you know how much money is left in your student's lunch account. Another friendly reminder will be left to let you know when your child owes lunch money. These phone messages will be starting in March.

PROGRAM INFORMATION

Children may purchase a prepared hot lunch at school. The lunch is based on the nutritional needs of a 9-12 year old child. The lunch consists of:

    1. one-half pint of milk

    2. two ounces protein-edible portion of lean meat, fish or cheese

    3. at least three-fourths cup of fruit and/or vegetable (student's choice)

    4. one or more portions of whole grain or enriched bread

Children who carry their own lunches to school may purchase milk for a minimal fee. It is advisable to send correct change whenever possible. Children must bring a note from home if they plan to go home for lunch. Please specify the days of the week or specific dates unless it is a blanket approval to go home for lunch.

Student Meal Accounts - The Bank of Nutrition
For your convenience we have a computerized cashiering system. Payments into the meal account can be via check, cash, or for your special convenience, starting this year, Nutrition Services will accept on-line payments using your major credit card. For on-line credit card payments, please go to the website http://www.schoolpassport.com/. Similar to a bank account, money in any of these forms is "deposited" into individual student accounts. "Withdrawals" are made when students purchase meals, double deal meals and snacks. The computer signals each account when there are two prepaid meals remaining in the student's account and we remind students in a variety of ways to bring money to replenish their account. Students may not share account numbers, because the federal government will only allow one reimbursable meal per day. Students who share lunch numbers for meals show up on the "Double Card Usage" report, and will be charged the meal price plus an additional $.35 to pay Nutrition Services for the federal reimbursement that can not be claimed. Free or reduced approved students who share their numbers may lose their free and reduced meal privilege.

Returned Check Policy: A $20.00 processing and collection fee will be charged for every check returned by the bank or for every uncollected charge that we must turn over to a collection agency. Students with unpaid NSF checks are placed on a CASH basis until the check and fees are paid.

Charge Policy: The school district has the same charge policy for each level:

Elementary - 2 charges, Middle - 1 charge, High - No charges

Notification steps we take so you and your student know when money is needed:
1.
Two prepaid lunches remaining in account, the cashier will remind your student and ask them to voluntarily stamp his/her hand with a "need lunch money" stamp.
2. One prepaid lunch remaining, step #1 is repeated.
3. First meal charge, we provide a full meal and again suggest your student stamp his/her hand with the "need lunch money" stamp. A "need lunch money" coupon may also be picked up.
4. Second meal charge (elementary only), cashier repeats step #3.
5. After charge limit is expeceeded, a complimentary meal is given comprised of a carton of milk, vegetable, and a dinner roll. Student is again reminded to stamp his/her hand or pick up a "need lunch money" coupon. Two complimentary meals will be provided free of charge.
