Read our Our Vision and Mission!
We have approximately 550 students including special education students. Our students range in grade from preschool to fifth grade. We have a diverse population. Our students live in suburban single family homes, mobile homes, and apartments.
Rocky Mountain Elementary opened its doors to students in August 1987. The principal, George Moyer, worked hard to make Rocky Mountain a neighborhood school that was warm and welcoming to students, parents, staff and community members.
Rocky Mountain was a school that had a diverse population of students, not only in demographic terms but also in academic learning styles. When the school first opened it had two REACH classrooms (now known as SSN Program - Significant Severe Needs) and two self-contained special education classrooms in addition to eighteen classrooms of kindergarten through sixth grade students.
Rocky Mountain was built with its diverse student population in mind. The special education classrooms were smaller because the classes were smaller, with two special education classes put together with an observation room and bathroom in between. This room configuration still remains to this day.
Rocky Mountain was on the leading edge as far as including the once self-contained students into the classroom with support being given in the classroom to students and teachers. Teachers were trained how to modify academic work so that each student could be successful at their level and make as much growth as possible. Teacher and paraprofessional support was given to the students as needed to insure their success in the classroom.
Through the years we have added and dropped specific programs as student needs have changed. Rocky Mountain added an MPH Program (Multiple Physical Handicaps) to our school when the need arose. These students were handicapped by physical impairments that prohibited them from being independent in the classroom. Students in the MPH Program required continuous support from paraprofessional and teaching staff. Under the direct supervision of the MPH teacher, paraprofessionals helped modify curriculum, assisted students with access to computer and technology advancements. This enabled MPH students to be productive in the classroom with their peers.
Currently Rocky Mountain Elementary has a student enrollment of approximately 490 students.
We have an SSN Program classroom, an SIED Program classroom (Significantly Impaired Emotional Disorders) as well as nineteen classrooms of kindergarten through 5th grade students. Together students, staff and parents work hard to help insure that Rocky Mountain students are given every opportunity to become independent, well adjusted, life-long learners.
